Got a bike and you'd like to ride it all around the world ? Been there and back and you'd now like to share the knowledge ? Thinking about getting a new bike and you'd like to see what others think about it before buying ? Fan of the American Choppers, Biker Build-Off, Monster Garage, Miami Ink, LA Ink, Tattoo Wars, etc., and anything and everything about biker culture ? Looking to hook up with people sharing the same passion ? Maybe you're even stuck in the middle of the road right now with a broken part and desperately in need to find the nearest dealer fast ?

Don't discriminate against the Japanese !

The basic idea behind Wikid Bikers is to provide a community based website that's a crossbreed between Wikipedia and hospitality exchange networks like CouchSurfing, Be Welcome or the Hospitality Club. Interested in joining the project and figure this one out with us ?

Even though this website is based on the MediaWiki engine, it's not meant to compete with Wikipedia whatsoever. This means that although you can apply all the neat little tricks you've learned over there, the rules are slightly different when you crash here :

• Show off!!! Personal profiles and self-promotion aren't only allowed, they're encouraged ;
• Upload as many personal picts as you'd like as long as you understand the licence (i.e. Who knows ? Maybe your favorite bike mag might want to use your picts ?) ;
• Even though we'd love to see your Wikid Biker party picts, remember that this isn't a 18+ website, try to keep 'em clean and make sure the people on 'em also approve the licence ;

• Add your favorite videos from YouTube, Google Video, Dailymotion, Funny or Die, Revver or Sevenload ;
• Companies big and small, garage bike builders, airbrush / tattoo artists are encouraged to set up shop over here and show us their portfolio ;
• Personal bike maintenance logs can be kept on this website so potential buyers will know exactly what's been done when to their new baby ;
• A used bikes corner will be setup shortly for all your buying / selling / trading needs ;
• User product evaluations pages will help us all shopping for better gear for the road while providing manufacturers feedback on what's hot and what's not ;
• Share the knowledge!!! Troubleshooting sections should help us fix whatever has come up with our bikes ;
• What state has no helmet law ? Does this town allow straight pipes ? How do I cross over the Atlantic with my bike ? Where's the closest retailer when my chain snaps in the middle of the road ? Read / write all about it!

Crashing

Two Virago crashing at Mont-Tremblant

So this is first and foremost a wiki and we don't yet have all the fancy widgets that social networking websites have. We're currently looking at Crash at mine, a promising open source hospitality network distribution for our specific needs but in the meantime...

• If you have some room for travelers who'd like to crash at your place, just add your user page to the proper category ;
• If you find hotels that are biker friendly, create a page for them and let us know ;
• If you have some extra garage space for a fellow biker for the winter, don't be shy ;
• If you have camping space in your backyard for someone who needs to crash in your area for the night, that could work ;
• Use the user talk pages to leave someone a message and don't forget to check yours !

That's the idea behind Wikid Bikers in a nutshell. One big biker family, the way it should be!
